The meeting
with the Supervisor of PRN (Projet Renforcement de la Nutrition) on December 19th
coincided with their regional meeting with the rural community of Toubacouta.
The ASCs, ICPs, relais, MbaDioghok, matrones, midwives, and Presidents of
committees and other representatives of several communities attended the
meeting. Child Fund’s purposes were to report and provide commentaries on the
malnutrition results and the number of children who were screened for the
campaign in these communities.
The campaign is called “The Cellule Lutte contre la
Malnutrition: Programme de Renforcement de la Nutrition". Thirty-one villages
mobilized for the campaign against malnutrition in the rural community of
Toubacouta were: Missirah Ngadioc, Sandicoly, Missirah, Ndoffong, Ndiambang,
Badoudou, Ndioffene Limane, Bandiagara, Boutilimite, Saroudia, Dassalami Soce,
Taiba, Keur Sambel, Sangak Medina Sangala, Sooucouta, Dagadiaodine, Santhie El,
Aidara, Bosingcang, Bententi, Toubacouta, Bary, Touba Nding, Koeurl Soce,
Dielmon, Nemanding, Nemabah, Santamba, Ndoumboudji, Koeur Alou Gueye.
About 100 health
authorities attended the meeting in Toubacouta. I took the opportunity to know
more information on Child Fund to judge where they could bring their knowledge
in my community in terms of training, community outreach, and monitoring and
evaluation of malnourished children. Mr. Sall was an amazing resource in
discussing the role of Child Fund and their specific duties the programs they
monitor including Programme ASBEF, Projet CAMA and PRN.
I met the
entire team of Child Fund who intervenes in Sokone. We received two weight
scales from them on December 20th. I met Mr. Gueye, le charge de
Programme Nutrition a Toubacouta, Foundiougne, Passy, et Sokone pour Child
Fund. During the meeting, I also had the chance to meet le responsable de zone
de Sokone, Mr. Backe and Mr. Cheikh Faty, the Vice President of the rural
community of Toubacouta and Gibril Diouf, the President of the Health
Commission of the rural community of Toubacouta.
About 264
children were screened for the campaign 2013-2014 in Dassalami Soce, Saroudia
and Boutilimite. The results are presented in the tables in the Campaign against Malnutrition post. Malnutrition
is rampant in my community during the cold season. I think it would be an
interesting project to track the number of malnourished children in each season
period per year and compare the data to see if there is an increase or decrease
in malnutrition rates.
This way the data results provide a roadmap of the
salient times for the prevalence of malnutrition. As a result, this is a better
use of our time and effort in delivering nutrition health causeries. I am
looking forward to developing a new partnership with the Child Fund Team.
